Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine

I may have had this on a real record at one time, but those things are long gone and I don't even have a way to play them any more. Long ago I just gave up and repurchased everything I could, conveniently, get on CDs.

There's a lot in this song. One of the books that most influenced me and sparked my hatred of commercial television was Vance Packards The Hidden Persuaders. This song puts many things in better perspective. While is supposed to be a commentary on advertising, I think it works even better as a commentary on encouraging drug use as compensation for inferiority, anxiety, and helplessness. It's wonder upbeat cheerfulness and chilling message always make me laugh. Have fun thinking about it.
